On September 7, 2024 WMA attended the Ember Stomp Fire Fair, sponsored by Fire Safe Marin and the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority. Thousands of people attended and there were many excellent informational booths and demonstrations. We highly recommend you attend next year!
IBHS (the Insurance Institute for Building and Home Safety) is the premier natural hazards research entity in the U.S. and studies how homes burn in wildfires. Representatives from IBHS had a burn demonstration where one small structure met the “Wildfire Prepared Home certification standard, and the other structure was built to typical standards and had poor defensible space. Local firefighters used drip torches to light the bark mulch and it was impressive to see what transpired!
